They solved the chimney issue!!
Quick recap for the puzzled - I want to put a multi-fuel stove into the sitting room (soon to be playroom). But a full fireplace and chimney stack was going to take up the same space as the 2 seater sofa, I know that the room is big enough to take it, but I didn't want to encroach into the room that much. The alternative was a metal pipe from the stove up to the ceiling - this would be boxed in through the spare room but would be a pipe above the roof. What I wanted was a free standing stove with pipe to ceiling but chimney on the roof.
The builders have been 'researching' the answer for nearly 6 months. But they have now found I solution, hoorah! A fibreglass chimney covered with slices of stone to make it look like the other chimneys. I've checked it out and it seems like the right solution and it's cheaper than building a full chimney and saves space in the sitting room.
I'm a happy bunny again today!
