I kept checking the BBC's list of school closures this morning, but we weren't listed.
I decided to speak to colleagues about the state of the roads (I may only live 10 minutes from school - but it's lanes all the way). School was open - despite the severe weather warning and by 8am big flakes were falling again. I decided to leave it as long as possible (for the roads to clear) and left home at 8:45 - M from the pub was behind me taking J to school. Luckily I have a 4 wheel drive but getting out of my lane at the bridge was still pretty hairy!
About a third of the pupils turned up to school - some of the village children were 'snowed in' when children from further away managed to get in!! Mid morning it was decided to close school at lunchtime - many phone calls were made and most children were collected by 12:30.
M came to collect J and said the journey to school to get J had taken 45 minutes instead of 10. I left shortly afterwards - the lanes were bad but not too bad, negotiating the drive was the most difficult bit. I got home to discover that the builders were still here - mad men! They're leaving shortly.
The weather is definitely worse today - with at least 3 inches having fallen between leaving home at 8:45 and returning at 1:00. It looks set in. Off to snuggle up in front of the fire!
