This is my favourite picture of Mum and Nick - it's also the background on my computer desktop and there are a few copies of it around the house too!
Today's the anniversary of Nick's death, it's five years ago but I remember that day so clearly.
It was the day that his mother's ashes were to be interred, but we'd already agreed that he was too weak to attend. He was poorly in bed, we didn't know what was wrong (other than the effects of chemo). The doctor came, agreed he was poorly and arranged for him to go into hospital.
At six o'clock he and Mum had a conversation about when he would be home - they came to te conclusion that his blood transfusion would take too long that evening for him to be home that day. She went back at nine o'clock (they always saw each other later in the evening when Nitty was in hospital, so they could say goodnight) and saw that his breathing had changed - the doctors confirmed that something was different, the family was called and he died very peacefully with us around his bed.
His illness was horrible but his death was kind. I can usually remember him and smile (bit hard today). He truly was a gentle gentleman and I love him.
